A short mantra for generating bodhicitta (the mind of awakening), the aspiration to attain Buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings. This is the foundational motivation in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. Practitioners recite this to cultivate compassion and the wish to liberate all beings from suffering.
